Business activities are grinding to a halt at Assin Praso in the Assin North Municipality of the Central Region following a faulty transformer in the community.
Assin Praso, a major commercial town in the Central Region, has been without electricity since June 11, 2017 after the only transformer in the community developed a fault.
In an interview with Today, Assembly member for the Assin Praso Electoral Area, Bright Owusu-Ansah, said life was becoming extremely difficult for the residents of the community.
Mr. Owusu-Ansah said when the incident happened two weeks ago, he reported it to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office in Kumasi.
“Politically, we are in the Central Region but we get our power from the Ashanti Region so when the transformer developed fault, I quickly went to Kumasi and reported but still no results as promised by the officer,” Mr. Owusu-Ansah indicated.
According to him, the situation was having a toll on all activities in the community.
He revealed that the only health facility in the community was currently relaying on generator, a situation he said, was affecting the finances of the health facility.
“Every business in Assin Praso has been affected. Those who sell water, ice kenkey are the most affected as their businesses depend on power,” he said.
“My worry is with the health facility because we are talking about human lives here,” he added.
To this end, he called on management of ECG in Kumasi to, as a matter of urgency, do something about the situation.
