A Ho circuit court has fined Dodzi Gidisu, driver of a pick-up truck, GHC 840 or in default serve a nine-month jail term with hard labour for causing the death of one Moses Akpabli, a motor rider.
The court presided over by Madam Priscilla Dikro, ordered Gidisu to pay a compensation of GHC 1500 to the bereaved family and further directed the family to pursue the vehicle’s insurer for their claims.
According to the facts of the case, Gidisu was driving the truck from Ho towards Aflao with one passenger on board.
He allegedly tried to overtake a yellow coloured salon car around Tritrinu, and in the process collided with Akpabli on a motorbike.
Akpabli was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Volta Regional Teaching Hospital in Ho.
Gidisu was found guilty on his own plea and fined 70 penalty units for careless driving and negligently causing harm.
