Rarely do players migrate from Europe and the Americas to play on the African continent and most, especially in Ghana, considering the lack of infrastructure and the equipment to aid in career development.
But Abner Martins Dos Santos Pinto has taken the bold step to sign for Ghanaian Premier League side, the Fearsome Elmina Sharks FC.
Born in Marilia in the mid-western region of the state of São Paulo in Brazil, Dos Santos signed a two-year deal with the Fearsome Sharks with the possibility of an extension at an undisclosed fee.
The Brazilian striker comes with a vast experience in his role, having played for Maltese clubs—Marsaxlokk FC, Melita and FC Swieqi Utd—from 2015 to 2017. He had earlier had stints with Portuguese side, Portomosense, and Atletico Granadilla in Spain from 2010 to 2013.
Measuring about 1.8 metres and endowed with a prolific right foot, Dos Santos is expected to help solve the goal-scoring difficulty that has plagued the Sharks in their maiden appearance in the Ghana Premier League.
Dos Santos can also play as a winger which could prove vital for the team when he receives confirmation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Premier League Board (PLB) to ply his trade in the Ghana Premier League.
Abner, 27, with his unveiling last Sunday in Elmina, Central Region, becomes the first Brazilian player to play for the Fearsome Sharks. Kumasi Asante Kotoko had earlier signed Hermes da Silva from Brazil in 2013.
