The Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Gifty Twum Ampofo, says women constitute 51 percent of the Ghanaian populace yet only few are seen in the limelight while the 49 percent males dominate in all circles in the country.
She therefore challenged the females to coil out of their shelves and use their diverse knowledge and skills to contribute towards the national development.
Madam Twum Ampofo made the assertion in an interview with a Radio Ghana Correspondent in Koforidua to mark the Mothers’ Day, noted that women were created by God to serve as helpers but not to be enslaved.
Women, Madam Twum Ampofo said, is a refined creation of God which makes them special and urged them to shun inferiority complex and avail themselves with the various opportunities around including education to make them work together with males to develop Ghana.
According to her, Ghanaian women are rubbing shoulders with men in positions yet there is more room for improvement.
Madam Twum Ampofo who is also the MP for Abuakwa North, commended women for occupying high positions in the country including the newly appointed Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, female parliamentarians as well as the 36 MMDCEs in the country.
She implored husbands to consider wives as helpers and refrain from suppressing them at homes due to the cultural norms.
The Eastern Regional Director of the Gender Department, Christina Ankama, said Ghana needs the talents of women, men and the youth for her development and urged the public to support the females.
She advised children to reciprocate the toils of their mothers from infancy to adulthood while alive rather than waiting to organize expensive funerals when they die.
