Sierra Leone Mudslide -Not less than 300 people have been killed in a mudslide and heavy flooding in Sierra Leone. The Landside happened after Regent witnessed a chilling night of heavy rain which saw a hill side in the area collapsed, submerging buildings and destroying properties.

According to reports, many people may have been asleep when the mudslide occurred, since it was at night. Relatives were left digging through a river of mud in search of their loved-ones.
The death toll is likely to rise, as bodies continue to be dug out of the mud and reported. A mortuary in the capital of Freetown was overwhelmed by bodies.
Emergency ambulances were scattered like seeds all over the area trying to reach victims trapped beneath the collapsed hillside. According to reports, up to 2000 people have been rendered homeless by the disaster.
Lots of Properties were destroyed while the occupants had to flee for their lives.

Interacting with the media, the country’s Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh admitted that the number of casualties of the Sierra Leone mudslide is likely to rise by the day.
Many of the impoverished areas of Sierra Leone’s capital are close to sea level and have poor drainage systems, exacerbating flooding during the West African country’s rainy season.
This month and the preceding one have been greeted with heavy downpour putting the entire environment at high risk of flood disasters. Flooding is not unusual in Sierra Leone, where unsafe housing is regularly swept away by heavy rains.
The country has been facing many landslides in the past due to some people building their houses in areas they are not supposed to do so. Over the last three years, there have been many deaths on a yearly basis due to landslides and other disasters.
In 2015, Freetown endured deadly floods sparked by monsoon rains that killed 10 people and left thousands more homeless.
