Kweku Baako, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, believes while the cost of some helicopters purchased by the Mahama government for Ghana Gas could be said to be on the high side, claims that the aircrafts are missing are simply ludicrous.
Reports were rife that three helicopters for Ghana Gas Company, which were purchased at a cost of 150 million dollars by the erstwhile administration, could not be found.
Speaking on Joy FM’s “New File” on Saturday, Kweku Baako labeled the reports as blatant lies, stressing that helicopters are not like “bicycles” to suddenly go missing.
According to him, there are no missing helicopters as purported in the media.
“Helicopters are not like bicycles that somebody can take and throw away somewhere. If we were talking of the value, that the transaction perhaps was bloated, that’s a different matter. Let’s subject that to some investigation and find out the details . . . Helicopters cannot be missing”.
Mr. Baako however raised concerns about the value of the helicopters, calling for investigations into the purchasing cost of the helicopters.
Meanwhile, management of Ghana Gas has also denied reports that the helicopters were missing.
According to a statement issued by the Corporate Communications Department of the company, the helicopters are currently stationed at the Ghana Air Force Headquarters at Burma Camp.
The company further stated that the number of the helicopters is not three but four and indicated that the Ghana Gas mandated the Air Force to operate and maintain the helicopters because “Ghana Gas does not have the expertise and hangers to operate and maintain the helicopters…The helicopters are in good working condition and not broken down as erroneously reported.”
