Children and the aged at the Central Regional town of Denkyira-Obuasi where a military officer was murdered Monday have been abandoned in a Church.
The immediate past District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira West, Ambruce Amoah, who revealed this Tuesday said the children and the aged were abandoned by their parents and relatives as they fled the town for fear of reprisal.
A team of security personnel made up of the police and the military are currently looking for food to feed them, Mr Amoah said on Onua FM’s ‘Mantem Mpuntuo’ Tuesday.
“Children who have been left by their parents are now in a church and police and army are now looking for food for them. Elders are also in their rooms because they cannot go and fend for themselves and they [police and military] are looking for food for them” he said.
He added: “Schools have been closed. No business activities are going on,” he said.
The former DCE said the town has become a ghost town, noting that aside the aged and the children who are being kept in a church , everyone has fled.
Some residents on Monday morning brutalised the military officer, Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama and burnt part of his body on suspicion of being an armed robber, the police has said.
He was the detachment commander of Ghana Armed Forces troops on operational duties in the area.
Armed military personnel and a high-powered fact finding team were deployed to the area Tuesday morning forcing residents to flee the town for fear of their lives.
