The Entertainment Chief of Tamale, Northern regional capital and self-imposed leader of a task force, Mohammed Hafiz Demanaa who was beaten by angry traders evicted from the streets in a decongestion exercise on Friday led a group of rowdy youth to cause distraction at the regional police headquarters after a gate-crash meeting with the police commander, ACP Patrick Opoku Adusei.
The Chief was incensed by the failure of the police to launch investigation into a case which a group of frustrated hawkers turned his cheeks into a punching bag and landed blows repeatedly on them.
He claimed he was attacked and pounded severally on his cheeks on Monday, 22 May, 2017 when he led the Metro Task Force team including armed soldiers to drive away hawkers who had invaded the Jubilee Park.
He identified one of the attackers as Buglana -Zaachi and filed a report on same day before being admitted at the Tamale Central Hospital where he spent five days.
However, on Friday when he invaded the police command with some well-built men to find out stage of the investigations, he refused to address the matter with the district commander and thrust into the office of the regional commander.
ACP Patrick allegedly answered he was unaware of investigations of assault that involves him obviously meaning the police did not open investigation into his allegation of assault.
The commander’s response angered the controversial ex- British soldier who incited and charged the supporters to hurl slurs and denigrate the commander.
The men created a noisy and chaotic scene in the command yard leaving a devastating toll of shock and surprise on the faces of lower officers.
The Chief who was a member of bodyguards of then vice presidential candidate of NPP now vice president, Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia during the 2016 campaigns raged at the police commander labeling him a member of the opposition NDC and lowering his reputation by suggesting he was an opposition pawn.
“The regional commander said the docket had not come to him and said I should write a petition. I am telling him I’m not writing any petition and even if I’m writing a petition I will send to the IGP because if you are in your region and something will happen five days and you don’t know then you should be asking yourself questions. So I will petition the IGP not you”
“He is a member of the NDC, the commander, we know it: so anything he jokes with it. Look at the indiscipline in Tamale. Why does the indiscipline exists, because the police refuse to do their work”, Chief Demanaa wildly alleged.
