A Roman Catholic priest based in Germany has started a university college dedicated to the study of Applied Sciences at Kansoe in the Bongo district of the Upper East Region.
Through Rev. Dr. Moses Asaah Awinongya’s charity project, the Regentropfen Education Foundation, has given and continues to give scholarships to numerous brilliant but needy students in his home region.
The Foundation gave birth to the Regentropfen College of Applied Sciences (ReCAS), a private university college affiliated to University for Development Studies (USD) which Rev. Dr. Awinongya hopes will help give brilliant young people in his region the opportunity to develop their potentials.
Rev. Dr. Awinongya though based in Germany, decided to establish the University at Kansoe – Namoo in the Bongo District – the community where he comes from and grew up in himself.
“We want to help the young ones – our students to develop themselves and not to make money -from the school,” he said in response to questions as to if it made business sense to put up such a facility in rural community like Kansoe – Namoo.
Thanks to Rev. Dr. Awiningya’s innovation, this educational facility – a first class edifice with lecture halls, a library, a modern computer laboratory and hostel accommodation for students will hopefully, churn out some of the best applied scientists, educationists, accountants and agriculturalists in Ghana.
Pro-Vice Chancellor for the UDS, Prof. Seidu Alhassan has said the Regentropfen College of Applied Sciences has everything that University students need, to succeed.
At the school’s matriculation ceremony to admit the first batch of students to study Business Administration, Basic Education, Accounting, Computer Science, Agriculture for Social Change and Basic Education, Prof. Alhassan told the students; “if you complete from this school and you don’t make it, you would have blown away a golden chance to succeed in life”. Rev. Dr. Moses Awinongya’s Regentropfen Education Foundation was adjudged the best social institution of the year at the recently held Northern Investor Awards.
He has also been nominated for this year’s MTN Heroes of Change – a project by mobile telecommunications company, MTN Ghana that seeks to recognise and award selfless people doing amazing things in communities across Ghana.
