Uncle of late Captain Maxwell Mahama who was lynched in Boase, a mining community in the Central region says gory pictures of his late nephew gives them sleepless night.
According to Malik Dramani, the family is appalled to see the public sharing the gory images of their son’s gruesome murder.
“The family is grieving and his mother who is currently out of the country has been crying uncontrollably. His death is very painful and the mere fact that it has been posted on social media is worrying and keeps giving us sleepless nights” he said on Accra-based Okay FM Wednesday.
Malik Dramani appealed to the public to desist from circulating the horrid images of the deceased military officer online.
Captain Maxwell Mahama, the only son of his mother who was a Commander of a Military Detachment in Boase was killed by the inhabitants when he went for jogging Monday morning on suspicion he was an armed robber.
Two women reportedly saw a pistol on him, and because of an armed robbery incident that had happened recently in the area, raised alarm and called the assemblyman for the area who organized the youth of the town to lynch him.
Captain Maxwell Mahama who was not dressed in military uniform at the time pleaded several times that he was not a criminal, but the angry residents kept hitting him with cement blocks until he died. They then burned his body.
Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo Addo has assured that persons involved in the killing will be arrested and dealt with ruthlessly according to the law.
Scores of youth in Boase have been rounded up in a swoop Tuesday, by soldiers who have stormed the town following the killing of the Junior Military officer.
Five prime suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the lynching of the Captain.
But reacting to the issue, Mr. Dramani appealed to the President and the military to fast-track processes leading to finding the real killers of his nephew.
“We want the killers to be put behind bars. We need justice because we can’t lose our son just because of some wicked people. His soul will never rest peacefully if these killers are not prosecuted” the emotional uncle stressed.
He noted that the level of intolerance among Ghanaians is increasing daily, a situation which requires immediate action in dealing with the perpetrators.
