The mortal remains of the late Capt. Maxwell Mahama who was lynched in Boase, a mining community in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region on Monday, has been conveyed to Accra.
The body which had been kept at the Dunkwa- on -Offin government hospital morgue, was flown in by the Ghana Air Force on Tuesday evening.
Capt. Mahama who was a military Officer with the 5thInfantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but was on assignment as Commander of a Military Detachment in the Denkyira Boase on Monday went jogging along the main road and was allegedly spotted by two women with a pistol on him.
According to reports, due to an armed robbery incident that had occurred in the area the previous day (Sunday), the women suspected the Soldier who was not dressed in military uniform at the time of being one of the armed robbers and reportedly raised alarm, called the assemblyman who organized the youth of the town to lynch him.
According to reports even though Captain Maxwell Mahama pleaded several times that he was not a criminal, the angry residents kept hitting him with cement blocks until he died.
Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo Addo has assured that persons involved in the killing of the junior army officer, will be arrested and dealt with ruthlessly according to the law. He further expressed his condolences to the family of Captain Mahama on their tragic loss.
