The Ghana Police Service has retrieved the pistol of late Captain Maxwell Mahama which was missing during his lynching by residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central region.
The weapon was found on Wednesday May 31, 2017, two days after the horrific lynching of the Captain. The army rounded up the youth of the town in search of the body and the weapon late Monday after they received news of the demise of the soldier.
After several hours of searching, the firearm was not found and a thorough search was instituted. The body of the soldier was flown back to Accra but the search of the weapon continued until reports were rife that it had been found and retrieved by the investigating police team.
It is however not clear where exactly it was found, whether in someones room, home or in the bushes. The police has dispatched a special team comprising homicide squad, crime scene management and action units to Denkyira Obuasi, to among others gather further evidence and intelligence regarding the murder of Captain Mahama.
