The Bupei and Yapei bridges in the Northern Region will be closed on Thursday and Friday, the Ghana Highway Authority has announced.
This is a temporary closure to enable asphalt overlay works on them, the Authority said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The bridges will be closed intermittently from 7am to 1pm each day.”
This comes barely a month after the bridges underwent a complete overhaul.
They were closed to traffic in November, 2017 for works, a situation that caused uproar and the subsequent summon of the Minister of Roads and Highways by Parliament.
But alternative arrangements have been made for motorists during the latest closure of the bridges.
Motorists on the Western Corridor are expected to use the Accra-Kumasi-Techiman-Wenchi-Bamboi-Bole-Wa route.
Motorists plying the Eastern Corridor will use Accra-Tema-Assikuma-Hohoe-Jasikan-Nkwanta-Oti-Damango-Bimbilla-Yendi route or the Accra-Tema-Assikuma-Have-Kpando-Worawora-Dambai-Wulensi-Bimbilla-Yendi route via the crossing of the Volta River with a ferry at Dambai.
Motorists on the Central Corridor will go through the Accra-Kumasi-Mampong-Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji-Salaga route via ferry crossing at Yeji or go through the Kintampo-Techiman-Nkoranza-Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji-Salaga route.
Those to come via the Western/Central Corridor will use the Takoradi-Tarkwa-Bogosu-Aymafuri-Dunkwa-Obuasi-Kumasi-Techiman-Wenchi-Bamboi-Bole-Wa route.
“Motorists are advised to adhere to directional and safety signs that will be made available at appropriate sections.”
