The governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, has cautioned party youth against violent protest over the selection of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive nominees.
His caution follows the destruction of party paraphernalia on Friday June 23, by some angry NPP youth in the West Mamprusi District (Walewale).
Their action was to register their disapproval of the nomination of Abu Amadu as the District Chief Executive nominee for the area.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo was compelled to nominate Abu Amadu following the previous DCE nominee, Saaka Sayuti’s outright rejection by assembly members.
Citi News gathered that, the rampaging youth were provoked by Saaka Sayuti’s replacement. They have thus pleaded with President Nana Addo to drop Abu Amadu and renominate Saaka Sayuti.
But the outspoken NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, called for ceasefire in a Citi News interview.
He asked the rampaging youth to exercise maximum restraint by respecting the President’s decision. He advised all aggrieved party supporters to use the appropriate party structures to settle their grievances with party leadership and the appointing authority.
Daniel Bugri Naabu assured them that their grievances would be communicated to the President. Several fierce protests have characterized the nomination of MMDCEs across the country.
A similar protest led to a political deadlock between some NPP supporters and the Savelugu/Nantong Municipal Chief Executive which was recently resolved by a Presidential mediation team.
