Former Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency Baba Jamal has sent the strongest warning yet to the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to forget coming to power in 2020 should they decide to settle on another candidate instead of John Dramani Mahama.
“John Mahama is not just affable and well marketed but he is the only president in the history of this country who has done a lot of developmental projects in a short time,” he said about the immediate past president.
“We can all see it around us. For four years Ghanaians can attest to what he has done. I am saying if NDC wants to return in 2020, John Dramani Mahama is the obvious choice.”
Explaining his position on Onua FM’s morning show Yen Nsempa hosted by Bright Kwesi Asempa, the former Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations said blames being heaped on the former leader cannot wash and must be halted with the speed it deserves, emphasizing that the former president did his all to see the NDC retained during last year’s polls.
“I know what I am talking about. John Mahama has done his best, I have been in the forefront of elections in this country and I can tell you in all my assessments I have done since we lost, he, John Mahama wished we had won,” Baba Jamal vented out.
Mr Jamal, who is now an active practicing lawyer, also disclosed that resources made available to parliamentary candidates during the 2016 general elections surpassed that of past elections, adding that never in the history of the party were resources made available in such magnitude.
Asked what could have caused the humiliating defeat in December 2016, Baba Jamal opined that “there were too many uncoordinated splinter youth groups and other groups which the leadership of the party was not able to control. These groups were not preaching the same message as well as fight for recognition by the same groups were also a major factor in our defeat.”
He further observed that if the NDC present John Dramani Mahama in 2020 elections there is no way Ghanaians will reject him.
In his justification, Mr Jamal explained that by the time the four-year term of NPP administration is over, it would be clear to the electorates that they have been deceived.
“Look, the 100 days of this government that they are claiming to have achieved some 103 successes are all lies and deceptions. All they have achieved is eight ministers that are responsible for security have failed to deal with small vigilante group called Delta Force. Even appointment of MMDCEs are characterized with violence, so it is all political disaster everywhere, so Ghanaians are watching.”
