Queenmother of of Ekumfi Otuam, Nana Anyinfuah III, has called for the body of Ghana’s late President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills to be exhumed and moved to his hometown for a befitting burial.
Prof. John Mills died on July 24, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital; just five months to the December 2012 general elections which he was seeking re-election.
He was subsequently buried in August 2012 at a park close to the Osu Castle. The burial place which has been named the Asomdwe Park has since been in a bad state.
His tomb, as of February this year, had developed some cracks to the extent that caretakers had to use blocks to support it.
On the commemoration of the 5th anniversary of his demise, the queenmother of Otuam where the late President hails from, told Onua FM the burial ground was not the suggestion of Mills’ family and the Ekumfi Traditional Area.
She has consequently appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure the remains of the late Prof. Mills is brought back to Otuam for re-burial.
She also asked the executives of the National Democratic Congress to respect the family of Prof. Mills by bringing the remains of the late President to Otuam.
Meanwhile, she said the people of Ekumafi do not have any idea about the 5th anniversary ceremony organized by the NDC at the Asomdwe park Monday.
