Fearsome Elmina Sharks’ Brazilian new signing, Abner Martins Dos Santos, has arrived in Ghana to finalise his contract to feature for the club next season.
Dos Santos, who is the first Brazilian to play for the Elmina based club, penned a two-year deal with the Fearsome Sharks. The Brazilian signing, according to the management of Elmina Sharks, is expected to augment the attack of the team in their bid to clinch the Ghana Premier League (GPL) next season.
Addressing the media yesterday at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra, the 27- year-old Brazilian, who has had stints with clubs such as Maltese side, Marsaxlokk FC, FC Swieqi Utd, Portomosense, Melita and Atletico Granadilla in Spain, described the GPL as one of the best leagues on the continent.
He said the decision to play in the Ghana Premier League was well thought out between himself and his agents and has therefore promised to justify the confidence reposed in him by the club’s President, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who played a key role in securing his services.
While conceding the competiveness in the GPL which he claimed to be following before coming to Ghana, Dos Santos said the experience gained from playing in Europe will enable him succeed in his pursuit to become the best striker in the league next season.
“I have to be honest. I don’t know much about the players but I know much about the league which I am sure will enable me to succeed in my role as a striker and also a very dependable assist.”
“I know it’s a very physical league but my experience in playing in Europe and my native Brazil is enough motivation to achieve more for Elmina Sharks and the people of Elmina whom I have heard are very passionate about the team even before joining the elite league,” he said.
He added that playing in the GPL is an opportunity every player relishes and therefore promised the club’s President of delivering his best for the success of the team.
Dos Santos will officially join the team for the 2017/2018 league season if Elmina Sharks escape relegation. The team is currently 14th on the league table with 21 points from 20 matches.
