Gunmen have shot and killed a 15-year-old boy at Alavanyo in the Volta Region on Thursday evening.
Another boy sustained gunshot wounds in the fatal attack in the precarious town today.
According to residents, the attackers stormed the town in the afternoon and opened fire on the children.
This adds to four the number of persons that have been shot dead in renewed clashes between the people of Nkonya and Alavanyo in the region in less than a month.
The 15 year old boy has been identified as Prince Ankutse whilst Alex Adiku who sustained injuries is receiving treatment at the ST Margret Marquart Catholic Hospital in Kpando.
It is troubling that the gun attack is coming on the back of the deployment of heavy security in the two communities and the decision by the regional security council to intensify the dusk-to-dawn curfew in the area.
The conflict between the two towns has been raging for over 95 years over a parcel of land. It is however unclear whether the recent attacks can been related to the land dispute.
Several lives have been lost and several properties running into thousands of cedis destroyed over the years. Curfews have been placed on both towns and their environs but the age old conflict seems not be going away.
