Students of Bolgatanga Polytechnic on Monday staged a demonstration against executive of the Students Representative Council (SRC) over what they say is the mismanagement of funds.
According to the irate students, the buying of a 12-seater van at GH¢66,000 is way beyond normal.
The students demand a refund or the entire executive resign en mass.
The SRC explained that it purchased the Nissan caravan in January 2017 for the use of student body. A total of GH¢70,000 was involved in getting the van to the Sumbrungu campus from Accra.
But after a majority of the students described the cost as exorbitant, they impeached the SRC president last Friday and followed up with a demonstration on Monday.
The spokesman for the student body, Moses Asooh, said they may proceed to court if their pleas are not heard by close of Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Rector of Bolgatanga Polytechnic Dr. Atinga Mba appealed to the students to be calm because a committee has been set up to investigate the matter as management resolves to defend the image of the school.
There was heavy security on campus to avert any unseen circumstances. The demonstration was peaceful overall.
