Residents of Assin Akropong in the Assin North Municipality of the Central Region have been plunged into a state of mourning following the discovery of the body of a woman floating in a stream in the community.
The deceased, Akosua Kumiwaa, who is believed to be in her fifties, was announced missing on Tuesday after she had not been seen for some time.
On Wednesday, some residents who were going to fetch water found her dead body in a stream not very far from her home.
The body has since been retrieved by the police and deposited at the mortuary at the St Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Foso for autopsy.
The police are yet to officially reveal the cause of her death. However, a resident who spoke to Citi News said the deceased has long been believed to be suffering from epilepsy, and the community members are of the view that the sickness might have caused her to drown as she went there to fetch water.
What has left the people of Akropong gripped with fear is the fact that the unfortunate death of the woman shortly follows the death on Sunday of an eighty year old woman in the town, when a building collapsed on her, while pounding fufu with another woman.
The other woman who got badly injured was rushed to the St Francis Xavier Hospital, but she also passed away some hours later.
The community members have since been calling on their leaders to take the occurrences as a spiritual issue that requires spiritual remedy.
