Ghanaian and Red Star striker, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom has grabbed the Serbian side Player of the Year Award. The 24-year-old Black Stars forward was named Red Star Belgrade’s Player of the Year at the club’s annual gala held on Thursday, 14th December, 2017.
Yiadom who has so far in the new season, displayed commendable goal scoring prowess, having scored 39 goals for Red Star Belgrade in 48 matches across the Serbian league, Serbian Cup and the Europa League, was rewarded with the 2017 Red Star Player of the Year award.
Yiadom scored his latest goal for the club during the 1-1 draw with city rivals Partizan on Wednesday – the very last match in the Serbian league for 2017. His tremendous contributions in the year, went a long way in helping his side qualify for the knockout stage of the UEFA Europa League as well as the comfortable position they are currently occupying on the Serbian league table.
Boakye-Yiadom is currently placing 3rd on the Serbian League’s top scorers chart, with 15 goals behind FK Radnicki’s Milan Pavkov, who has 16 goals and his team-mate at Red Star Belgrade, Aleksandr Pesic, who tops the chart with 17 goals.
Coming to international games, Boakye-Yiadom scored 2 goals for Ghana during his only appearance for the team in the year – the 2018 World Cup Qualifier between Ghana and Congo which came off on the 1st of September, 2017.
In all, the Ghanaian player is credited with a total of 42 goals in 51 appearances in the year 2017.
It is also worthy to note that Richmond Boakye-Yiadom’s form has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, namely Newcastle United, West Brom, Anderlecht, Rennes,Turkish side Besiktas, Chelsea, among others.

According to ESPN FC, close sources have revealed that Newcastle United and West Bromwich are individually deliberating on snatching the Serbian forward who is in a deal with Red Star till 2020, anytime possible.
Yiadom’s management team has also indicated that a move to a mainstream European club is on the agenda and imminent for their client. What is however, not yet known is when they will effect the move. Whether they would pounce on the very next opportunity – the January window or wait till the end of the season, that is during the summer transfer, is what no one knows yet!
It has however been hinted, that Boakye-Yiadom has shown interest in joining Chelsea who reportedly came for him last year. This is because he would love to reunite with his boss, Conte who coached him at Italian side, Juventus.
