The Black Stars lost by a lone goal in Wednesday’s friendly game against Mexico played at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Elias Hernandez’s penalty gave the Mexicans a win in the game despite an impressive display from the Black Stars.
With the Mexicans fielding a second string side due to the main team’s participating in the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup, coach Kwesi Appiah gave starting opportunities to some fringe players.
Mexico’s Jesus Gallardo sprinted down the left wing in the 31st minute and was fouled just after entering the 18-yard box resulting in a penalty.
Elias Hernandez stepped up and placed the ball to the left corner of the net to beat Richard Ofori in post for Ghana.
With about five scoring opportunities going to waste, Ghana’s best opportunity to get an equalizer came to midfielder Frank Acheampong in the 78th minute when he found himself alone in the penalty area, one-on-one with the Mexican goalkeeper only for his left-footed shot to hit the top-left post.
The Black Stars will travel to Connecticut where they will face the USA in a friendly game on July 1.
