The team needed to defeat Congo in Kumasi to spark hopes of reaching the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia; but a 1-1 draw by the Red Devils on Friday, September 1 ruined their chance of qualifying.
The Black Stars Congo Draw did not only bring down the hopes of many but attracted lots of criticisms towards the team. The Ghana National Team have been persecuted severely by Ghanaians for not securing a victory at the clash.
The critics are numerous, but the one whose tongue-lashing gained great prominence is Patrick Osei Agyemang, a.k.a Countryman Songo, host of popular Sports TV show ‘Fire for Fire’.
Countryman Songo has lashed out at the Black Stars for the poor performance against Congo that has put the national chances of a fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup appearance in danger.

Known to be the number one critic of the Ghanaian national team, the controversial broadcaster took a swipe at the team for their poor display against Congo which has seemingly jeopardized their chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia.
The controversial TV personality also hurled insults at Asamoah Gyan, Captain of the senior national team, for attributing the team’s discouraging performance against Congo to the players’ lack of desire to win.
Asamoah Gyan while interacting with the media after the game, Gyan stated that their inability to win the game and stand a good chance of securing a fourth-successive World Cup appearance was due to the absence of a desire to win.
But Countryman Songo rebuked him for making such statement. He described the Black Stars captain as a fool, decrying his unsympathetic reaction towards the disappointing outcome.
Ghana will need to defeat Congo in the return leg taking place in Brazzaville, Congo on September 5. However, two key players; Captain Gyan and deputy Andre Ayew, will be absent at the crucial Congo return leg -another cause for worry among Ghanaians.
The duo who sustained injuries in the previous match will not be joining the rest of the team. Uganda remains top of the group with seven points after beating Egypt 1-0 in Thursday’s game. Egypt is second with six points followed by Ghana on two points and Congo with a point.
