A 120-bed capacity hospital has been commissioned at Atuba to take care of the healthcare needs of the people in and around Binduri District in the Upper East Region.
The multi-million facility, Azimbe Hospital, has two consulting rooms, Out Patient Department, theatre, laboratory, male and female wards and a kitchen among others and it is expected to run a 24-hour service.
The Binduri District has since its creation in 2012, not had a hospital to receive medical referral cases from the various health centres dotted within the district. The Azimbe Hospital is expected to receive such referral cases in the area.
The chief in the area, Zugraana Naba Abugrago Azoka II, commended the owners of the facility for not only bringing healthcare to their doorstep but also creating jobs for the youth in the area and beyond.
He urged the workers to give off their best, especially in service delivery, and ensure the facility functions all the time.
Naba Azoka underscored the need for workers to be discipline in executing their duties, and support doctors and nurses in the hospital to help save lives. Commissioning the facility, Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Azimbe, said the completion of the facility could not have come at a better time than now in view of the fact that healthcare delivery in the area was worrisome
He said it had been the desire of his family to health facility in the area to save lives of the people requiring medical care, adding “the coming into fruition of this facility makes today a special day indeed”.
A resident of the area, Jambeiru Sadat, was very grateful for the establishment of the hospital, noting that it will go a long way to reduce their traveling cost to access healthcare in Bawku, which is about 15km from Atuba.
District chief executive of the area, Yakubu Ayinga Abagre, noted that development cannot always be left to the government alone since it requires concerted efforts of the private and development partners.
He commented and appreciated the role of the Azimbe Hospital in the healthcare delivery system in the district.
Mr. Abagre said the hospital will help reduce the rate of maternal and child maternal mortality which was partly due to the absence of a hospital in the district.
