BGC and GTA both kept their places in the ongoing Greater Accra Cricket League with victories over Dilmah and City CC respectively at the Achimota Cricket Oval on last Sunday.
BGC, playing Dilmah on Oval A, had to bat first after winning the toss. Their innings recorded 163-7 with James Vifah scoring half a century (50), off 57 balls. In the bowling figures Renju took 3-35 in 6 overs while Mukesh took 2-31 in 6 overs.
Dilmah in the second innings managed 126-9, allowing BGC to win by 37 runs. Albin scored 48-48 whereas Isaac took 2-20 in 5 overs for BGC. James Vifah of BGC was for the first time declared Man of the Match for his club.
In the match between GTA Superkings and City CC on oval B, the former won toss and elected to bat first. They scored 154-8, with adjudged Man of the Match, Peter Ananya scored a remarkable 62-56 not out. Team mate Kofi Bagabena scored 26-26. City CC’s Bless B took 2-2 in 1 over while Hafiz Imran took 2-15 in 6 overs with a maiden.
City CC scored 60-10 in 22.2 overs. Henry Ackom Jnr scored 8-25 and GTA won by 95 runs. In the bowling figures, Madhu took 4-11 in 6 overs with 2 maidens, while Bagabena took 2-4 in 4 overs with a maiden.
GTA’s win kept them at the 3rd spot with 6 points while BGC remain 4th with 4 points. All teams except the top 2, Everest and Nsromma Titans have played 5 matches.
The winner of the second edition of the Greater Accra Cricket League will however be known come Sunday, July 30, 2017 as Everest plays Nsromma Titans at 10 :00 am.
The 30 over, round robin league which was supposed to see top two clubs play the final after 5 matches each has to be reverted, for a winner to be declared at once. According to the organizers, it won’t be necessary to have Everest and Nsromma play next week and play again the following week in the final as they lead the log.
The 9 weeks intended league will now be 8 as the earlier proposed top teams to play finals have been cancelled.
