According to Floyd Mayweather Jr., he is laughing at the critics who believe he can’t read, spell and write.
Mayweather, a former five division world champion will return to the ring at the age of 40 on August 26th, when he faces UFC champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The fight is viewed as a complete mismatch by most experts, because McGregor has never had a single professional boxing match.
While the fight is viewed as a very uneven contest, Mayweather is expected to make over $100 million for the fight – his first since retiring from the sport of boxing in September 2015.
He says the critics can believe what they want to believe, but the overall financial numbers are what count at the end of day.
“This move I made right here, it’s unbelievable. They’re gonna talk about this business move at Harvard. They’re gonna talk about this business move at Harvard. So I want you guys to keep believing what they say. They call me every name in the book. ‘He can’t write, he can’t spell, he can’t read.’ Keep believing in all of that. Obviously I’m doing something right if I made $800 million with no endorsement deal,” Mayweather said.
Mayweather could have lured in plenty of endorsement deals, especially when it comes to athletic wear, but he refuses to wear anything outside of his own clothing brand – TMT [The Money Team]. He has no interest is supporting a rival brand.
“Why would I wear someone’s else’s brand?” Mayweather said. “Nike had to start somewhere. Adidas had to start from somewhere. Puma had to start from somewhere. I’m gonna build TMT from the ground up. even when I’m long gone and my great grand kids is running it, we have to start from somewhere. If I wear anybody else’s brand, I gotta wear my brand first.”
