The Bawku Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region on last Thursday failed to endorse President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee, Hajia Hawa Ninchema for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
Out of 27 assembly members and government appointees present and voting, 15 voted in favor of the nominee representing 56 percent while 12 voted against her confirmation representing 44 percent.
The nominee Hajia Hawa Ninchema until her appointment was a retired teacher and former regional women organizer of the NPP.
The confirmation exercise was supervised by the electoral commission and witnessed by the Regional minister, Rockson Bukari, Deputy regional minister, Frank Fuseini Adongo and the Regional Chairman of the NPP, Ibrahim Mutala Mohammed.
Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari appealed to the assembly members to consider the development of the people of Bawku and eschew and confirm the nominee to propel the development of the area.
“The people of Bawku matter and should not suffer due to your(assembly members) inability to confirm the nominee. Let us rise above political colorization because Bawku need development, they need water, good roads, health centers among others and that cannot happen until the nominee is confirmed.
It is my plea that, Honorable assembly members will confirm the President nominee Hajia Hawa Ninchema the second time which will be in the next ten days or less.”
President Nana Addo’s nomination of Hajia Hawa Ninchema as MCE of Bawku Municipal assembly replaces his early appointment of Moctar Amadu Bagaya.
