The spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Saanie Daara has confirmed rumours that the Ayew brothers are out of the Black Stars friendly matches against Mexico and the United States of America
Rumours have been rife in the past days that Dede Ayew and his younger brother Jordan Ayew have pulled out of the two friendlies with the excuse that they want to rest after a marathon season in the English Premier League
Speaking to journalists after the team’s training ahead of the two friendlies, Sannie Daara gave a comprehensive report on the state of the team and confirmed the rumours that have been making rounds in the last couple of days.
He explained that the absence of the duo was due to their respective clubs’ unwillingness to release the two attackers for the friendly games.
He disclosed that his outfit has received letters from the clubs of the two brothers and defender Daniel Amartey requesting the above-mentioned players be exempted from the two friendly games.
He further stressed that the FA are in negotiations with the clubs of the three players to get them for the matches.
“21 players turned up for training today. Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah are with their clubs because their season is not yet over. Afriyie Acquah is injured so he could not turn up for training. Andre and Jordan Ayew are not here because their respective clubs have requested that we excluded them from the friendlies”.
“These friendly matches we are playing do not fall within the FIFA date for friendly matches so the ultimate say over whether they should release their players or not but we are counting on the good relationship we have with these clubs to ensure that we get them for the two matches”.
Andre Ayew plays for West Ham whiles his brother is an attacker for Welsh side Swansea. Daniel Amartey plays for dethroned champions Leicester City.
Ghana will lock horns with the Mexican national team on June 28th before meeting the United States on 1st July.
