There were two major casualties at the end of the regional contest of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz for the Central Region.
St Augustine’s College and Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School failed to book a place in the national contest.
The regional contests are the qualification rounds for the quiz proper to be held mid-2018 at the University of Ghana.
Already, contests have been held in the Western Region.
Ahantaman Girls’ SHS, Nkroful Agric SHS, Bompeh SHTS, Nsein SHS, Sekondi College, Fijai SHS, Fiaseman SHS and St Mary’s Boys’ SHS are the schools that made it to the national competition from the Region.
They join Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS, Takoradi SHS and GSTS, who have been seeded for the national contest.
With as many as seven schools seeded, Central Region was expected to present some of Ghana’s top schools including St Augustine’s College and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS.
But the two lost to Swedru SHS and Boa Amponsem SHS respectively.
The Region – touted as the center of Ghana’s education – will, therefore, be represented at the national competition by Ghana National College, University Practice SHS, Adisadel College, Holy Child School, Aggrey Memorial SHS, Mfantsipim School and Wesley Girls’ SHS, who were seeded.
The qualifiers from the regional contest are Ekumfi TI AMASS, Academy of Christ the King SHS, Breman Asikuma SHS, Swedru SHS, Boa Amponsem SHS, Apam SHS and Winneba SHS.
The next regional contest will be on Tuesday in the Ashanti Region at Opoku Ware SHS.
