The New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executives in Atwima Kwawoma Constituency of the Ashanti Region have rendered an unqualified apology to their Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Kojo Appiah-Kubi who was physically assaulted by party youth over the weekend at a funeral.
Reports indicate the MP was attacked by angry party youth believed to be supporters of Prince Karikari, the constituency Secretary at a funeral ground held for a party member at Trede in the constituency.
The MP however denied the youth assaulted him as reported indicating that he was only hooted at with some trying to pelt stones at him but for the timely intervention of his entourage who whisked him into his vehicle and fled the scene.
“I was not beaten at all even though they tried. It is never true that the youth assaulted me. They only hooted at me and other party executives “Dr Appiah-Kubi explained to mynewsgh.com reporter.
“I will like to use this medium to tell colleague MPs, friends and loved ones who called to find out about my health that I am well and they should not worry at all”, he disclosed.
The Constituency Secretary also said he has received several calls accusing him of masterminding the alleged assaulted on the MP has since rendered his apologies to the legislator on behalf of the entire executives and the youth.
“When I heard the news I quickly went to my MP to know the whole truth. I knelt down and held his leg for forgiveness. He confirmed to me he was not assaulted but hooted at”
“The way the news has traveled has brought disgrace to us as executives of NPP. I will say we are sorry to the MP and everyone affected”, he observed.
Meanwhile the party has since resolved differences between executives and pledged to ensure the nominee for the District Chief Executive position, Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi has the endorsement of Assembly members.
