The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has asked chiefs in the Ashanti Region to release portions of land to support the government’s ‘One District, One Factory’ policy.
This was disclosed by the Chief of Amakom over the weekend during the launch of the Twellium Foundation in Kumasi.
The Foundation, which has been set up to change the lives of the less endowed in the society, is also aimed at complementing the government’s effort to ameliorate poverty.
Addressing the media, the Chief of Amakom, Nana Adu Mensah Asare, revealed that the Asantehene has directed all the chiefs in the Region to make available lands which will serve as free zone enclaves for the promotion of the ‘One-District, One-Factory’ policy.
“Two weeks ago the Asantehene had a meeting with us and told us to release lands for the government industrialisation policy,” he said. The government’s flagship economic policy is to industrialise the country while creating job opportunities for the unemployed.
Nana Adu Mensah Asare also called on investors to come to the Ashanti Region since it is endowed with natural resources and skilled labour.
“The Ashanti Region is strategically located and has all the requisite materials to help businesses grow; from labour to raw materials.”
Marketing Director of Twellium Industrial Company Limited Ali Ajami told the media that his company will consider setting up a plant in the Ashanti Region. “We will consider an extension at the management level.”
