Some youth of Asante Akyem Central Municipality in the Ashanti Region, have rendered an unqualified apology to the President for their behaviour during the sitting to confirm the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.
They have thus pleaded with the President to for the second time re-nominate Mr. George Kyei Baffour as Municipal Chief Executive for the area.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the leader of the youth group, Effah-Abedi Theophilus, conveyed the youth’s “sincerest apology to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo through the regional minister and his deputy, and the party executives for any misconduct exhibited by some of the youth.”
“We agree that any booing and hooting by some disgruntled youth against your person or office, indirectly brought the office of the presidency into disrepute.”
The President’s nominee failed to gain the nod of assembly members during the confirmation. This makes Asante Akyem Central the only municipality in the Ashanti Region without a Chief Executive.
The youth have thus pleaded with the President to as a matter of urgency re-nominate Mr. George KyeiBaffour as MCE for the area. They lamented that the absence of an MCE “ has a negative implication on the development of our municipality.”
They have vowed to “heartily embrace, accept and support Mr. George Kyei Baffour as MCE nominee for the second time.
“We know that the president out of his own wisdom and the mandate given him by the Constitution chose the best person for Asante Akyem Central.”
They said “the spirit of factionalism and sectionalism within our fold in our search for an MCE must be consigned to the dustbin, for such predispositions breed the grounds not only for chaos, anarchy but also underdevelopment.”
They have thus asked all assembly members to fully support Mr. Kyei Baffour should their plea be accepted by the President for the development of the area.
