The Nkawie Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Johnson Michael Abbey, has remanded eight people into prison custody for inflicting cutlass wounds on one Collins Opoku.
The eight, said to be members of a gang in Abuakwa Zongo, in a reprisal attack on one of their members (known as Rebel Leader) who was allegedly attacked by anoher gang, besieged the funeral grounds of a member of a rival gang, to commit the crime.
They are to reappear on May 4, 2017 on the charge of conspiracy to commit crime and use of offensive weapons.
They are Abdulai Gabriel, alias War, the leader; Masawudu Issah, also known as Abodie; Iddrisu Mohammed, alias Alquaeda, 24 and Musa Alidu; 20 years; Abdul Basit, 18 years; Shamel Mohammed, 24 years; Abdul Shabuku, 24 years, and Ibrahim Yahaya, alias Butterfly, 19 years.
Briefing the press, the Ashanti Regional Commander of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ken Yeboah, said at about 6 p.m. on April 22, 2017, some youth, armed with machetes, from the Abuakwa Zongo in the Atwima Nwabiagya District, stormed the grounds where the funeral of one Mr Frimpong (also known as Opope) was being held at Abuakwa.
He said the youth who had gone there to avenge the assault on them inflicted machete wounds on one Collins Opoku.
DCOP Yeboah said the police had wind of the attack and went to the scene, where the suspects were arrested.
