Another petition has been received by the president to have Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) removed from office, 3news.com can confirm.
The petition dated August 18, 2017 was filed by one Douglas Seidu.
The petition accuses Charlotte Osei of “incompetence” and “misconduct”, among other allegations.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s Midday Live on Wednesday, Director of Communications at the Presidency Eugene Arhin said the attention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was drawn to the petition on Tuesday.
He immediately referred it to the Chief of Staff, Mr Arhin said.
This brings to two the petitions against Mrs Osei.
The first was filed by some workers of the Commission under the name ‘Concerned Workers of the Electoral Commission’.
Though it was originally rejected by the lawyer of the Chair of the Commission as being without identifiable signatories, Mr Arhin confirmed that a total of 17 names were attached to it.
That petition accused Mrs Osei of violating the Public Procurement Act, abusing her office and superintending over financial malfeasance.
The petition was referred to the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, as per Article 146(3) of the 1992 Constitution.
There have been other petitions against two other Commissioners – Dr Amadu Sulley, who is in charge of Operations and Georgina Opoku Amankwaah, who is in charge of Corporate Services.
