Another escapee in the Kwabenya Police Station jailbreak arrested in E/R
One more fugitive in the Kwabenya Police Staion jailbreak has been arrested in the Eastern Region.
Emmanuel Kotey, 21, was among six suspected criminals, including a Nigerian, who were broke out of the Kwabenya District Police Cell in Accra on January 21, 2018.
He was arrested Friday at Asikasu where he was hiding, Eastern Region Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed to TV3’s correspondent Yvonne Neequaye on Saturday.
“We have just handed him over to [the Police in] Accra,” he added.
A Police Inspector on duty on the day of the jailbreak was shot dead by the gang that stormed the Kwabenya District Police free suspects who were in custody for various crimes.
Police gave the names of the fugitives as Chibuzor Akwabu, 34; Dickson Ofori, 24; Edem Rockson, 32; Prince Osei, 27; Emmanuel Kotey, 21, Kofi Darko, 21, and Attah Kwadwo, 20.
On January 22 the Police in Volta Region managed to re-arrest Atta Kwadwo, Prince Osei and Kofi Darko from their hideout at Worawora.
The three were subsequently put before court but on Kwadwo and Rockson pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, and escape from lawful custody. Darko pleaded not guilty.
The two were on February 13, sentenced to 30 months in prison each.
Meanwhile, nine others are standing trial for abetment of the crime.
They are Nancy Denta, trader; George Yeboah, electrician; Kofi Acheampong and Edward Lartey, both herbalists; Kofi Seshie and George Sarbah both drivers; Elvis Owusu, waiter; George Asante, trader; Theophilus Bandah, and Prince Kofi Acheampong, both herbalists.
