Former caterers under the School Feeding Program in the Central Region Monday morning demonstrated at Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem Municipal Assembly, demanding payment of arrears owed them.
Some of the old caterers said they have not been paid for 125 days.
According to the leader of the group, Emilia Hasford, government has refused to pay them, but after pressing hard they were only paid 7 out of the 125 days that are in arrears in October.
She told Onua FM’s Kwame Kakraba at Elmina that government revoked their contract in July this year without paying them the outstanding arrears.
“This morning, we are here to demonstrate about the monies owed us, they owe us for three terms. When we met the minister, she assured us of payment but unfortunately she only paid for only 7 days out of the 125 days arrears,” she said.
She said they are constantly being harassed by their creditors including banks, making it difficult for them to sleep at night.
Maame Hasford said recently when they demonstrated at the Ministry of Gender and Social Intervention, the sector minister, Ms Otiko Afisah Djaba apologized for the undue delay in paying the money.
“We are appealing to the Ministry of Gender to act quickly and solve our problem,” the caterer pleaded.
Caterers from Saltpond, Cape Coast and Elmina joined the demonstration.
