The Alliance for Integrity has launched a book christened: “Ensuring Compliance-A Practical Handbook for Businesses in Ghana.”
The 76-page book, which comprises 21 articles from 19 authors, and grouped in three sections, addresses common issues faced by companies in designing and implementing various compliance and anti-corruption measures in organisations.
Mr Michael Boadi, Member of the Awareness Creation Working Group, Alliance for Integrity said the book covered the Ghanaian legal framework as well as global anti-corruption laws.
It also focussed on key questions pertaining to what constitutes corruption, offences as per global anti-corruption regulations and implications of non-compliance.
He said the book was useful for businesses that wanted to start their own compliance management systems or upgrade existing systems based on local and global best practices.
“The publication is a good tool for peer-to-peer learning and strengthening their supply chains in order to ensure their own growth and sustainability,” he added.
Dr Nicole Maldonado, Head of Development Co-operation at the German Embassy, said Ghana remained a strong partner of Germany and that the German government recognised the relevance to jointly engage against corruption and strengthen its cooperation with the private sector.
“This year marks 60 years of co-operation between Ghana and Germany and as Germany hosts the Presidency of the G20, we should all expect closer collaboration with Africa,” she added.
In an address read on behalf of Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, Minister of Business Development commended the Alliance for Integrity and government of Germany for implementing the initiative in the country and that government was aware of the devastating effects of corruption to both the private and public sectors.
The Minister was of the view that although the country improved in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report rankings from a position of 111 to 108 out of 190, from 2016 to 2017, a lot more needed to be done by all stakeholders to eliminate corruption and make the country more competitive.
