Following the desire of some faceless official(s) at the office of the Electoral Commission seeking the impeachment of its chairperson, Charlotte Osei, in a petition to the President and the Attorney General over some alleged mischievous activities described as “abuse of power”, the commissioner has debunked the claims by the council, chaperoned by a practicing attorney Maxwell Opoku Agyeman.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Osei, dated this 21st July, the country’s first female EC chair has described the allegation, that’s, the move by the unidentified staff (according to the petition) as frivolous and malicious to her personality.
“The contents of the said ‘petition’ which has been widely circulated on social media and published by the mainstream media, are frivolous, baseless and are actuated by malice and ill will. These allegations are in my view, the product of an overactive evil imagination, and do not deserve any serious attention”, she stated in the release.
According to Mrs. Charlotte Osei, she has appropriate responses to all 29 allegations on which the calls for her impeachment are based, and awaits formal information from the president to make them public.
“I have my full responses ready for each and every allegation made in the so-called petition. However, in deference to His Excellency, the President of the Republic, for whom I have the highest levels of respect, I would respectfully wait to be formally informed by the Presidency before I make my responses public,” she said in the letter.
Sounding ironical, she called for an augmented support as she expressed gratitude to his staff members and other stakeholders for the support and complement offered her in the fair and balanced execution of the statutory mandate of her outfit.
“I take the opportunity to express my heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Electoral Commission, political leaders from the various political parties, and members of the general public for the overwhelming support shown to my family and I so far. I am absolutely certain that once again, history and the truth will vindicate the just, the statement indicated.
Meanwhile, some political characters have expressed diverse opinions on the highly publicized allegation.
