Alhaji Alidu Seidu received overwhelming endorsement after all 15 assemblymen, representing 100 percent, voted for him to become the Chief Executive of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, yesterday.
The president’s nominee, a popular person in the area, who was the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Asawase Constituency during the 2016 polls, was surprisingly rejected by the assemblymen some few days ago
Despite his huge popularity, Alhaji Seidu failed to garner more than 50 percent votes required.
The president eventually re-nominated Alhaji Alidu and on Thursday, the entire assemblymen, including the elected and the government appointees, unanimously voted for Alhaji Seidu as their MCE.
Wild Jubilations
There were wild jubilations all over the Asokore Mampong Township, capital of the municipality and the communities around Thursday afternoon, following the huge endorsement of Alhaji Alidu by the assemblymen.
Interestingly, the former MCE for Asokore Mampong under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan and some known NDC functionaries, were there to support Alhaji Alidu.
Alidu’s Message
Alhaji Alidu, who seemed overjoyed, following the massive victory he had chalked, pledged to work tirelessly so as to expedite the developmental aspirations of the area, urging the people to support his administration.
He assured about his readiness to unite the entire people in the municipality so that together they can implement effective programmes and policies, geared towards speeding the growth of the area.
Alhaji Alidu averred that he would always seek the counsel of the traditional authorities in the municipality, adding that working to transform the municipality to better the lives of the people is his core wish.
Meanwhile, most of the assemblymen that spoke to DAILY GUIDE assured of their readiness to support Alhaji Alidu to implement his vision of promoting the area to make Asokore Mampong a better place.
