The AKWAABA Forum, which is part of the Citi Business Festival has started at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The forum is aimed at addressing challenges in the tourism and hospitality industry in a panel discussion.
The panel is made up of the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority(GTA) Mr. Akwesi Agyemang, Managing Director, Jumia Travel West Africa, Mr. Kushal Dutta, Tourism Writer Kofi Akpabli, and Professor Kwaku Boakye, from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at University of Cape Coast(UCC).
The theme for the forum is “Unlocking the Tourism Potential”.
The panel is discussing challenges facing the industry, how Ghana can explore ways to deal with the challenges, and how to create synergies for the private sector and government in the industry.
Other issues being discussed are how to push the industry ahead of its competitors as well as explore ways to quicken but realistically fast track the implementation of Ghana’s 15 year tourism development plan.
The panel will come out with solutions on policy direction and implementation, investment in the sector as well as improving the workforce in the sector.
Participants at the forum include the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts , Ministry of Aviation, Ghana Tourism Authority , Ghana Tourism Development Company , Ghana Airport Company Limited and Ghana Tourism Federation. The rest are Ghana Hotels Association, Ghana Airlines Association, Tour Union Association of Ghana, Tourism Sites Owners and Jumia Travel.
