President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the Bawku West District Chief Executive post, Mrs Victoria Ayamba, was on Saturday given a massive endorsement by the assembly members despite earlier protest against her nomination.
Of the 49 assembly members who voted in the confirmation election, 35 representing 71 percent, endorsed her with only 14 against.
Mrs Victoria Ayamba who is the current constituency organizer of the New Patriotic Party, is a teacher by profession. Some party youth had earlier opposed her nomination claiming she lacked leadership skills to head the district. A protest against her nomination days ago resulted in destruction of party and state property.
There was heavy security presence at the assembly premises on Saturday during the confirmation exercise to avert violent confrontation.
So far eight nominees in the region have been confirmed, leaving seven more in Talensi, Bawku municipal, Bolga municipal, Bulsa south, Kasene Nakene West, Bongo and Binduri yet to be confirmed.
Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari, inducted Mrs Ayamba into office. She thanked the assembly members for giving her the nod and called for deeper collaboration.
She appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders and assembly members, to support her to develop the area in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s vision.
Earlier, the Regional Minister was in Pusiga for the confirmation of the of Zubeidu Abdulai who was overwhelmingly confirmed as the District Chief Executive for the Pusiga District.
He was given100 per cent endorsement by the 20 assembly members who voted. The assembly has 21 members
