President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that he travelled to the Upper West Region on Monday for the first time by air.
According to him, he has always come to Wa, the regional capital, by road.
President Akufo-Addo has been in Wa for the start of his regional tour of the north.
He is expected to be in the Upper East and Northern regions as well as part of his seven-day tour.
Speaking to the chiefs and people of Wa on Monday, the president said it was the first time he travelled to the town on a plane, which gave him a good view of work done.
“I know that there is work that has to be done,” he said.
“It is good always for the president to see things for himself.”
He said he appreciated the bad nature of roads connecting to Wa from his aerial view, contrary to assertions by the previous government – in the 2016 electioneering period – that there are no bad roads in the country.
He commissioned the Wa Water Project, which began in 2008, assuring that similar projects will be started and completed in the municipality.
He stated, for example, that the abundance of shea trees in the north should see a series of sheanut factories there.
He said some of the roads like Lawra-Nandom one will be amply catered for in next year’s budget.
