President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must show leadership and put in place stringent measures to check acts of lawlessness that is creeping into the society, Member of Parliament for Builsa South Clement Apaak has said.
His comments come after a soldier Captain Maxwell Mahama was attacked and killed by a mob in Denkyira Boase in the Upper Denkyira West district of the Central region.
The late Captain Mahama was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties at Denkyira Boase.
Captain Mahama who is the commander of the area military detachment according to his subordinates, was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, the women saw a pistol on him.
The women who mistook him for an armed robber alerted their assembly member who allegedly organised some men to lynch him and even burnt him in the process.
The mob attack occurred after a youth group in Somanya in the Eastern region Monday morning attacked a Police station and freed suspects who had been arrested for attacking the ECG office in the area on Friday.
The youth who clashed with Police also burnt a police vehicle in the process.
Also rowdy youth suspected to be supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party on Monday locked out workers of Export Trade, Agricultural and Industrial Development Fund (EDAIF) in Tamale Monday following allegations that the CEO is providing credit facilities to only members of the opposition.
The youth on motorbikes drove out the workers who reported to work and locked up the facility and left contact details for possible negotiations. Speaking on Monday Starr Tuesday, the former presidential staffer told host Francis Abban that citizens must learn not to take the laws into their own hands.
According to him, there has been several cases of lawlessness since January with the perpetrators not being arrested and prosecuted.
“I think it is time our leader puts in measures to help check some of these acts of lawlessness. We have seen people in broad day light misconducting themselves and nothing happened…an investigation must be conducted and the perpetrators of the act must be brought to book.”
