Her statement comes after she was severely criticized by stakeholders in the entertainment industry regards her decision to start Agya Koo and Daddy Lumba TV.

“Agya Koo is more popular, when you go to my constituency, the people in the rural areas know Agya Koo but when you mention John Dumelo, they don’t know him.” explained Afeku during the launch of Agya Koo TV at the Accra Mall on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

She also added that online and sampling in a research methodology verifies that Koo is more popular than Dumelo.

She told the press at the launch that there are apps in the works for the likes of Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Jackie Appiah, Lil Win and others. The decision to start with Agya Koo is because he has the biggest brand content wise.

As a way of resourcing Ghanaian artistes towards their upkeep, a mobile application has been developed to air programs of the various artistes that would be enrolled onto the project, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku has revealed.

The first of the project which is titled ‘Agya Koo TV, will be premiered at the Accra Shopping Mall on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

The next in line of the TV series titled ‘Daddy Lumba TV’, she noted will be ready in a month’s time.

This will be followed by other artists who will sign onto the project, she added.“This is an initiative that is going to put a lot of money in the pickets of our artists. They need our support and we must help them by patronising the app,” she noted.

Hon. Afeku revealed this when she took her turn at the Meet the Press series, Monday, to brief journalists about the achievements of her ministry in 2017 and what it intends doing in 2018.

The project is a public-private partnership aimed at supporting the upkeep of Ghanaian artists.
