Ugandan U-19 Cricket team made sure that Ghana suffered their fourth defeat at the ICC, U-19 Africa division 1, CWC qualifier in Kenya, Nairobi. The fifth match day, which was honoured on Friday, July 6, saw Ghana losing a double to the dominant Ugandan side.
Uganda, who have won all five (5) matches, elected to bat first after winning the toss. They scored 267/9 while Ghana managed 93/10 in 29.1 overs, in the match played at the Gyamkhana Club ground. Uganda therefore won by 174 runs.
In the batting performance, Zephania Arinaitwe scored 72/60 while Rogers Olipa scored 72/42, not out. Rexford Bakum scored 23/37 for Ghana.
Meanwhile in the bowling figures, Joseph Oko Adotei took 4/47 in 10 overs, while David Mario Pereira took 2/53 in 6 overs.
The man who was adjudged player of the match, Kenneth Waiswa took 5/16 in 8.0 overs for Uganda, with Trevor Bukenya taking 2/24 in 6.1 over.
Kenya, in the second game of the day saw off Botswana by 198 runs. Kenya won toss and batted first. They scored 281/8 whereas Botswana scored 83/10 in 27.3 overs. Kenyan Ankit Hirani was adjudged the player of the match.
Uganda still lead with 10 points, followed by Kenya with 8. Ghana has 2 points on 3rd position, while Botswana place fourth with no point.
Ghana, the Africa division 2 champions, will have their last match at the Jafferry Sports Club Ground against Botswana, who are yet to win a game at the tournament. The decider of the tournament will however be between Uganda and host nation, Kenya at the Gymakhana Club ground. Uganda, in the first round of the home and away round robin beat Kenya and would expect a tough match.
