The Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has allegedly abandoned the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, two days after showing up in Abuja to sign for his allowance, investigations carried out by this paper have revealed.
The Effutu law maker was spotted in his office in Ghana’s Parliament two weeks ago, whiles sitting in the ECOWAS Parliament was on going and since then he has been around attending to his private businesses.
The ECOWAS Parliament, started its three weeks meeting on Wednesday May 10 and it is expected to end today Friday, May 26, 2017.
Our checks from within the corridors of the Abuja based ECOWAS Parliament, have reveal that there is uneasiness among the Ghanaian delegation and officials, following the unexplained departure of the Effutu MP whom they say only came there to sign for his allowance covering the entire three weeks period. He was there for only two days and then could not be traced.
When contacted members of Ghana’s delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament were tight lipped on the issue as they refused to respond to our phone calls and WhatsApp messages.
Mr. Samson Ahi directed our reporters to the leader of the Ghanaian delegation to the ECOWAS parliament stating that he is the best person who can speak to the issue.
Leader of delegation and Majority Chief Whip, Mr Ameyaw Cheremeh when contacted refused to provide any answer on the issue. After persistent calls to him for three days he only sent a text message to read “I am in Parliament, please”.
As at the time of filling this report the leader had not responded to our enquiries on the sudden absence of the Effutu MP from the ECOWAS Parliament.
The majority side of the delegation is made up of, Hon Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Hon. Ama Pomaah Boateng, Hon. Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah and Hon Fredrick Opare Ansah.
While the minority side include Hon. Clement Kofi Humado, Hon Mahama Ayariga and Hon Sampson Ahi.
