Ghana’s David Accam played out an outstanding display for Chicago Fire as they thumped Orlando City 4-0 in the Major League Soccer in the United States on Saturday.
Accam had been in good form since the start of the season and fans and followers of the league had been speaking of his making the MLS All Star team and his output on Saturday proved why.
On three minutes, Accam opened his account in a very stylish manner when he back-heeled the ball into the net from a Matt Polster cut-back.
His second goal came after 8 minutes when he took down a long from former German international, Bastian Schweinsteiger, rounded the Orlando City goalie and scored.
His hat-trick was completed in the second half via a penalty after he was fouled in the area.
After scoring, he played the role of a provider by setting up Nemanja Nikolic who scored the fourth goal of the game. Accam’s hat-trick moved him to 10 league league goals and 6 assists this season and that gave the Fire their 12th game at home without a loss.
It was also their 7th straight home win this season.
Accam’s wonderful output was noted by Fire coach Veljko Paunovic and he praised the Black Stars player after the match. ” … On his side I think he’s committed, he’s cleaner on the ball, when he has opportunities he has more hunger to finish and today was a perfect example of that.
“I think he understands very well how to play with the team that we have now and with the teammates he’s surrounded with. We just have to work to give David opportunities and that he’s always fit for the game and then we expect that performances like this will come even more.”
The player himself was very pleased with his work and he highlighted the importance of finding good form before joining the Black Stars in their two friendly matches against Mexico and the USA on June 28 and July respectively. “To be fair, I think this is my first professional hat trick so it’s huge for me,” Accam said.
“I will enjoy it tonight. “I think this year we’re more dynamic first of all, I can be on the right, middle, out front everywhere. And for me it’s working really hard. “We have players who can play anywhere out front or in the middle so for us we keep changing and try to get in good positions. We have players who work for each other and also want to help the team win.” “It (playing for the national team) is a good thing for me. That’s where I want to be, I want to be playing for the national team. It’s extra motivation for me to perform well and also to go to the national team.”
