The 2017 edition of Ghana’s biggest festival christened Asafotufiami, held annually in Ada, in the Greater Accra Region was on Monday launched at the La Badi Beach Hotel.
This year’s festival which will be the 80th Anniversary of the celebration saw the unveiling of a special logo and a host of activities lined up for the festival in August.
The ceremony is under the auspices of the Ada Traditional Council in conjunction with Groupe Ideal.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of Groupe Ideal, Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani, called on chiefs, traditional leaders and the people of Ada to be united and champion the development of the area, especially the need to make Ada the preferred tourist destination in Ghana.
He also announced GHC 300,000 as seed money for the construction of a palace for the Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku.
80th anniversary
The Asafotufiami festival is celebrated in the first week of August every year.
It is celebrated in remembrance of the achievements of settlements by the ancestors of Ada during wars.
This year’s celebrations will mark the 80th milestone of the festival and will be on the theme; “Peace and Unity as a tool for the Socio–economic Transformation of Ada.
