The Ashanti Regional Police Command on Saturday dawn arrested seven persons in connection with the murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.
Captain Mahama was lynched by some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region after being mistaken to be an armed robber.
The police have so far arrested about 17 suspects and have vowed to arrest all perpetrators involved in the incident.
This brings the number of suspects arrested in connection with the murder to 21.
Confirming the arrest to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command ASP Juliana Obeng said the suspects will be transferred to the Central Region for further investigations.
“The Command has arrested seven persons who are suspected to be part of the mob that lynched the late Captain Adam Mahama. All of these suspects are presently in police custody in the Ashanti Region.”
“Meanwhile there are plans underway to send them to the Central Region for further investigations. These persons were arrested this dawn in some parts of the Ashanti Region. We are taking them back to the Central Region because that’s where the investigation actually started.”
She added that two of the suspects were allegedly harbouring the other five suspects who had escaped from the town the incident happened.
