Big-serving and well, just big, American John Isner lost to Israel’s Dudi Sela 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 5-7 7-6(5) 6-3 after almost four hours of play on Court 12 at Wimbledon.
The match proved to be a real David v Goliath battle and the former once again emerged victorious as the 5ft 9in Israeli overcame his towering 6ft 10in rival in five sets.
There is 13 inches difference between the two – but the win is more proof if needed that size well and truly doesn’t matter.
World No 25 Isner claimed the first set on a tie break before Sela levelled things up in the second. They exchanged sets before Sela, No 90 in the world, clinched the decider 6-3.
Sela will now play 13 seen and World No 11 Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. Dimitrov overcame Marcos Baghdatis to secure his progression earlier in the day.
Isner is of course famous for being involved in the longest match in Wimbledon history against Nicolas Mahut in 2010.
The match lasted just under 12 hours and before Isner claimed a 70-68 win in the fifth set.
